Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park, Meharangarh Fort with lunch in the fort gardens, Jaswant Thada and visit to an antiques and cloth shop. Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park is just down the hill from the fort. It is just a few years old and although not at it’s peak this time of year, is still a wonderful place to walk. Where we are walking is really the laneway for the water to run during the monsoon season so you can just imagine how beautiful this place would be at that time with many plants in bloom. Right now a quiet reflective walk with the fort in the background and a small stepwell and pond nearby. The fort walls are visible as well. Another fort that is awesome and full of fascinating history overlooking the blue city….the Brahman paint their houses blue by the way. There is a great museum here and my fav are the carpet weights…there is a room with the royal baby beds, some very ornate and gilded. I also love the room with the cushions on the floor in those glorious colours. From the fort we walked down a bit into the forts gardens…and here we enjoyed our lunch. This garden used to supply a lot of the royal household and has a very large and deep well to store water when the monsoons come. Mostly now in annuals and shrubs, it was a huge veggie, herbs, citrus and medicinal garden. From here it was a short journey to the Jaswant Thada, a royal burial ground and filled with monuments. It is beautiful all in white marble with turquoise accents and had a view over the whole city. We ended the day with a short stop at an antique shop and fabric place before heading back to the hotel.
