Tuscan Treasures in Italy Tour
June 2 – 10th, 2015

June 9th Tuesday Our Day Trip to Florence and Walking Tour, Palazzo Corsini al Prato and Time on Own

After breakfast we are off to discover the art and history of Florence as we join our local Florentine English speaking guide for a walking tour of this most magical city. As a special treat we will also visit the private gardens of Palazzo Corsini an historic and magnificent gem created in 1625! This garden is not open to the public, but Princess Corsini has granted us permission to view it. Along its many paths and alleys, you will see statues dating from the second century and walk past orangeries surrounded by hundreds of lemon trees in terracotta pots. Palazzo Corsini al Prato was created by Renaissance architect Bernardo Buontalenti, who amongst his many great works, is said, not unimportantly, to have invented Italian gelato. The garden contains about 180 citrus plants, has three big lemon-houses and provides a home for about a hundred turtles. A 52-metre-deep well supplies the immense garden with water. Because of the family’s love of dogs, statues representing these loyal animals are to be found throughout the garden.

Afterwards, it was more sightseeing, walking, shopping at the market…perfect day.

We stopped at an incredible view to see Florence in all its glory…then it was back to our hotel and our farewell dinner.
