Lois Hole Speaks
Words that Matter
“I have faith in a better future, because I have faith that most human beings want to do the right thing.” —Lois Hole

Lois Hole—master gardener, school trustee, university chancellor, lieutenantgovernor, and generous spirit—lived her life with passion and conviction. Never afraid to say what needed to be said, she has bequeathed to every one of us a legacy of caring: for friends and strangers alike; for our children; for our future.

Lois’s speeches, carefully selected and edited by Mark Lisac, afford a rich, enduring memory of the voice that inspired and encouraged people far and wide.

This book is the perfect keepsake for those who have been touched by her words.

“In viewing her speeches as a collection for the first time, we can see clearly why and how this remarkable woman changed public perception of the the lieutenantgovernor’s role. Her quiet determination and her abilty to relate to both young and old shines through in each of these pieces. Lois Hole Speaks captures the wit, humour and wisdom of a much-loved public figure. In fact, Lois became known throughout Alberta as “The Queen of Hugs”—a name she earned during her years as Chancellor, when she administered a warm and personal hugs to each graduand. She continued the practice as lieutenant-governor, adding a touch of warmth and intimacy to an otherwise austere and remote office.”
