The Saskatchewan Horticultural Association (SHA) is the parent body for all horticultural societies in Saskatchewan, and membership is obtained through those societies. SHA sponsors an annual provincial horticultural show in cooperation with a member society, trains and maintains a list of approved horticultural show judges, holds an annual meeting which includes educational seminars, helps sponsor demonstration gardens at Indian Head and Rosthern and encourages home gardening and junior gardening. SHA has published several publications including "Guidelines for Exhibitors and Judges" (1998). SHA also makes awards to worthy recipients, including the D.R. Robinson Award for outstanding service in horticulture by Saskatchewan residents and gives a Student Award to recognize the top graduating student at the University of Saskatchewan, specializing in horticulture. SHA and the University of Saskatchewan Department of Plant Sciences co-sponsor a spring workshop hosted by a society located in one of the 4 regions of the province. In the summer, a popular bus tour is offered to take in public or private gardens and related horticultural enterprises. Contact: Phyllis Hanson (306) 642-3848 or email phyllishanson@sasktel.net
