Subject: Cactus Enthusiasts?

Hey Folks!

I've been looking everywhere for some sort of cactus grower/vendor in the Toronto region of Canada, and to this point have had no luck. Most cactus growers seem to be based in the southern California region (for obvious reasons) and getting live specimens over the border seems to be a difficult task. Any information and help would be much appreciated! Even if you just want to TALK about cacti, drop me a line.

Andy

Andy - I am more an enthusiast of succulents than of cacti. But hey, close enough! Living in Ottawa, not too many sources here either. But was able to purchase some very nice specimens in Vancouver area. Van Dusen gardens sold me some great ones, and then I found more really exotic ones in a small Chinese grocery store on the UBC campus. Filled my carry-on bag with them! My suggestion would be to contact Van Dusen Gardens - ask them for a Canadian nursery that will ship cacti to you. It must be do-able! Good luck!

I once visited a fairly large cactus greenhouse in the Hamilton area.(they sold a good variety) I don't remember the name, so I sent out a couple of e-mails to friends in the Hamilton area. I will post another note if I can find you an address.

The Ontario Cactus and Succulent Society is a great forum for cactus and succulent growers (or fanatics perhaps?). I have been a member for a few years now and have learned so much. Joining is free - go to www.ontariocss.org/ for details. Hope this helps.
