I have a marvelous jade house plant 6 years old , very large , it is covered in "honey Dew" a sticky substance with tiny brown scales on the end of the plant, i have tried soap & water and , houseplant spray , I have children and pets so I want something safe. any suggest welcome.

Hi Wende - it sounds like scale on your jade. It's actually an insect. You can get rid of them by dipping q-tips in ordinary rubbing alcohol and rubbing off the brown spots. Time-consuming but effective.
